Advisor Help: How to Structure a One-Off Plan Review Call

A Plan Review Call is a one-time meeting to answer a limited number of planning questions. Generally there is no deliverable in this type of engagement. This provides a lower price point for clients with specific questions and straightforward financials.

Generally we see this type of call following these parameters:

  • Time Cost: 3 - 4 hours
  • Deliverables: Video recording, 3 - 5 action items
  • Price: $500 - $1,000

Set-Up: Add Engagement Type

  • Add a new service offering called Plan Review.
  • You can see how to do that in this article.

Set-Up: Add Calendar

  1. Create an event type in your calendar provider for Plan Review Calls.

  2. Add this calendar to your Planner Portal in the "General Calendar" section of the Company Profile (not the planner profile). This will allow DIY clients to select this option when they Book a Meeting on the Client Portal.

Optional: Join Adviice "Find an Advisor" Marketplace

Another good option if you'd like to do more plan review calls is to join the Adviice Marketplace where many DIY users are looking for advisors to review their plans.

You can see how to set up your marketplace profile in this article.

Best Practices:

  1. The client should enter as much information as they can (including uploading documents). The more information the client shares in advance of the meeting the more in depth the consult call can be. The expectation should be that they are getting a lower price for doing some of the prep work.
  2. The 1-hour consult is best for those with simpler situations, so you may want to highlight that rental property owners, business owners etc are not eligible. Consult calls are best for individuals and couples with simple T4 income.
  3. You may want to ask the client for the top 2-4 questions when they book the call, but set the expectation that you may not be able to address all questions during the call, this lets you focus your prep time on their particular questions.
