Adding An RESP Asset Allocation Override
The default asset allocation between stocks/bonds is weighted by the age of the children. The goal is to have an asset allocation of 10% stocks/equities and 90% in bonds/fixed-income/GICs by age 17.
In general, we want to “take risk off the table” as the children get closer to post-secondary, but this can be adjusted based on your personal risk tolerance.
The asset allocation can be adjusted by changing the percentage allocation to stocks using an override.
For example, for 2022, we could change the allocation to stocks from 64% to 75% and then see the allocation for bonds change as well as the assumed rate of return based on the new mix of assets.
