FAQ: Are Probate Fees Included in the Estate Tax Calculation?

No, at the moment probate is not included in the Estate value. This is simply because not all assets will go through probate, especially if/when beneficiaries are designed and/or if a joint account holder is added.

This is something we may add in the future but it would require additional inputs to understand what goes through probate and what doesn't (plus for some provinces the impact is minimal so it would only apply to a few provinces with higher probate).
